Greta Thunberg: NOW WE ARE SUING (THE SWEDISH) STATE!

According to Swedish media (December 6, 2022), young environmental activists “Aurora” (morning blush) have submitted their lawsuit to the court on November 25, 2022, against the Swedish state for lack of climate policy measures.

So far, 1620 world renounces and university teachers have shown their solidarity with the struggle of these young people and support their climate demands against the state. They have written in a joint debate article, among other things:

“Science says we need far-reaching social change, and this political work does not exist. It will have enormous consequences for children and young people … We as researchers and teachers cannot just watch when young people fight for their human rights … We need to take a stand for science … We interpret it as part of our mission to share of our knowledge. We should be able to do that even when it is inconvenient, and we are doing that now. We raise our voices when we see how the young are affected … The decline in biodiversity is extreme. According to the WHO (World Health Organization), the climate crisis is the biggest threat to human health worldwide and children are a particularly vulnerable group … The legal and moral basis for the work against climate change is that each country must do its fair share of the global climate work. Central to the international climate framework is that rich countries with historically high emissions, including Sweden, must go ahead of the rest of the world … The conclusion is clear. Sweden does not take the necessary measures to protect the rights of children and young people according to the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights … Therefore, we support Aurora’s demand that Sweden begin to do its fair share and immediately start extensive and far-reaching climate work that rests on scientific foundation and puts justice at the center … We want to convey that it is important that our young people are right, and we support them in this atmosphere, we hope they win of course”.

Greta Thunberg, born in 2003, is a Swedish student who has been on climate strike uninterrupted every Friday wherever she has been in the world since August 20, 2018. She started her brave protest all alone in the parliamentary area in the capital Stockholm.  Environmentally, Greta standing on the right side of the history. She has been successful in self-organizing young people without centralized leadership, both in Sweden and in other parts of the world. Greta has been bullied here and there by some ”adult” intellectuals and hypocritical politicians, but hon continues tirelessly her righteous struggle for freedom, equality and justice in a human society. From my point of view, she is one of the vanguards of “Woman-Life-Freedom”.
